Mg2Si INTERMETALLIC ALLOYS: PHASE GROWTH AND MICROSTRUCTURE

The Mg2Si intermetallic alloys have been prepared by using a powder metallurgy process. milling treatment of silicon as raw material to improve the formation phase was investigated in this research. un-milled and milled mixed with magnesium for 2 hours. powders were compacted stainless steel tubes sintered at 500 600°C 6 crystal structure identified X-ray diffractometer (XRD), while fracture surface observed under scanning electron microscope (SEM). XRD results show that is dominant phase, highest mass fraction 86.31%. lattice parameter calculated from cubic 0.6355 nm. As result, we might derive conclusion can be produced atmospheric mechanical air sintering techniques tube.
